Milena Radzikowska, Instructor, Mount RoyalCollege, Information Design Degree

Milena has been a member of ADETA since October 2008. She became interested in ADETA when one of her colleagues at MRC was using the organization as a client for a student project.
“Actually, my colleague approached me to ask me a question about how to engage people in an online forum, her students were writing a communication plan for ADETA” she said.
“My Masters dissertation examined how women with breast cancer used online applications to help them with their illness. My study explored how these women found and created community using technology. So, she thought I could provide her students with some insight into using the internet to engage people. Her question made me curious about ADETA and I signed up.”
Milena’s recently been doing some interesting work with developing interactive tools for managing information using technology. She’s working with an international team to research and develop new knowledge mapping and storage systems. Using these new tools will allow diverse teams who rely on quick exchange of information to efficiently and effectively store data.
Imagine a cob of corn, each person’s data represents a kernel and these kernels, when deposited, represent a visual image of the data. Users can quickly ‘see’ how the work is taking shape. Ideas and research like this will surely have an impact on what distributed learning looks like in the future.
When asked what are some of the benefits of an ADETA membership? she replied “I think that the idea of community is a good one. Knowing that there are other people out there with similar interests is important, ADETA has a great pool of like-minded individuals for me to collaborate with! I also find the job board really useful.”
